General Course Description

Magic is an integral part of Jungian psychotherapy. This is the realm where synchronicity, myth, archetypes, and story inform people's process of self-discovery. In the course of this journey, synchronicity can serve as the wonderful signpost that a seeker is on the right track. Through dreams, visions, and so-called coincidences, people can understand and appreciate connections in a powerful and deep way.

This intermediate level course explores myth, synchronicity, darkness, archetypes, women, and the interconnected universe through eight audio interviews (two come with transcripts) with leading experts in their fields. The first section is Myth, Spirit, and Imagination. It includes an interview with Richard Naegle on mythology and the spiritual journey, and one with Bradley TePaske on sexuality and the religious imagination. The second section is Synchronicity, and is comprised of three interviews. Joseph Cambray discusses synchronicity and the interconnected universe, David Van Nuys tells personal stories of a long run with synchronicity, and Jeffrey Raff explores synchronicity as it relates to Jungian psychotherapy.

The third section is Women and Darkness. It contains an interview with Arlene Diane Landau on the dark side of Venus Aphrodite, a discussion of Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method with John Beebe, and an exploration of the motherline with Naomi Ruth Lowinsky. And finally, the fourth section includes resources and references for further exploration.

This course is the fifth in a series on Jungian Psychotherapy with Dr. David Van Nuys. The first course is Understanding the Jungian Worldview, the second course is Exploring Jungian Archetypes, the third course is Jungian Tools and Applications, and the fourth course is Active Imagination.
